Lunch n Learn

The field of software development is constantly evolving. New tools and techniques emerge on a constant basis. An organization that follows the perpetual learning environment practice officially invests time in continuous learning activities.

Activities associated with this practice include, but are not limited to: Lunch and Learn ("brownbag") meetings, book clubs, maintaining shared book libraries, group code reviews, tutorials, training events, etc.

We have a weekly Geekfest where we give mini-presentations, hack on just-for-fun projects together, and focus exclusively on learning. We hold book clubs. We organize user groups and conferences to promote learning in our community. We have an apprenticeship program to help newcomers to software development learn how to develop software professionally.

We regularly attend conferences to expose ourselves to new ideas and technologies and meet new people. We also have a shared book library which anyone can order books for, as well as PeepCode Unlimited subscriptions. Another important part is bringing in freelancers to pair program with us. Working with new people every now and then is a great way for us to evolve and not become "set in our ways".
